FOR AN INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF NATIONAL FOCAL POINTS

IITE INformation NetworkThere is some information about computer and communication facilities at the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE), which could be placed at the disposal for the networking with national focal points.

I. Hardware
1.1 What types of computers are used (IBM compatible, Apple, etc.)? IBM Compatible, Apple
1.2 What generations of computers are used (486, Pentium, PentiumPro, Pentium II – III, IMac, PowerMac, etc.)? Pentium, PentiumPro, Pentium II, IMac, laptops, palmtops
1.3 What is a typical configuration of the computers (processor, RAM, hard drive capacity, additional storage subsystems)? Pentium, Pentium II, 32 Mb of RAM, 1.3 Gb till 4 Gb HDD, CD or DVD ROM
1.4 Are the computers equipped with multimedia equipment (audio- video, CD-ROM)? CD or DVD ROM, Audio and Video equipment
1.5 Do you have input equipment, such as scanners, digital video- and photo cameras and others? Scanners and digital video cameras
1.6 Do you have output equipment, such as color printers, plotters, LCD projector and others? B&w and color printers and LCD projector
1.7 Do you use a special back-up system? DLT back-up subsystem on our server.
II. Communications
2.1 Are the computers connected in a local network (if yes, what type of network is used)? The type of local area network is Ethernet 10/100 Base-Tx
2.2 What are the network hardware specifications (level and type of the cable system, number and configuration of servers, manufacturer of network equipment, number of ports, etc.)? We use the 3Com and CNet Ethernet hubs (the whole amount of ports is 56). The type of cable is Twisted Pair Level five. At this time we have one server Compaq ProLiant 7000 with FreeBSD-4.1.1-RELEASE
2.3 Has the local network a special application and file servers? We have not addition servers at this time; the above-mentioned server also works as file server
2.4 Has the network uninterruptible power supply sub-system? Powerware UPS subsystem
2.5 What kind of Internet connection is used (type of connection, level of ISP, bandwidth and other specifications)? Type of Internet connection is Frame Relay, the bandwidth is 4 Mbps. The level of ISP is 2
2.6 Have you 24-hour accessible Web-server and where is it hosted? Yes, we have it, hosted at our Internet-server URL: http://www.iite.ru
2.7 What kind of network operating system is installed (Windows XX, Netware, Unix, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and others)? FreeBSD-4.1.1-RELEASE
2.8 Who holds the license? The FreeBSD-4.1.1 is free and not need some license agreement
III. Software
2.1 Are the computers connected in a local network (if yes, what type of network is used)? The type of local area network is Ethernet 10/100 Base-Tx
3.1 What kinds of operation systems are installed (approximate number of installation for each)? Windows XX, Unix (FreeBSD, Linux), MacOS
3.2 What kind of office software is mostly used? Microsoft Office is used as office software
3.3 What types of Internet browsers are installed? Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer
3.4 What language(s) is (are) common used for whole set of software and what is its (their) exact coding title? Russian (Windows-1251, KOI8-R) and English
